Welcome to Richard The First

Located on the historic Royal Hill, a stone’s throw away from the centre of Greenwich, and only 400m from Greenwich DLR station. The Richard the First is proud to have been at the heart of the local community since 1923.

Upon entering you are greeted by the traditional bar space which is the heart of the pub. To the rear of the pub you’ll find our stunning conservatory, a relaxing drinking and dining space showered in natural light. Beyond that, our beautiful beer garden. A large, open space bathed in sun during the summer and covered by our winter marquee in the winter.

We specialise in Young’s award winning ales, craft beers, and delicious, nostalgic British food. We are the perfect location for a relaxed post work drink or a family and friend gathering.

As a Young’s house, we love watching rugby and this year will be no different! Even though the Rugby World Cup 2019 is in Japan we will be showing every game live on each of our three screens. There are TV screens across three different areas so come and watch England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and whoever you support in every fixture. Book now to guarantee a front row seat with your rugby loving friends and watch the match with some nostalgic British food and drinks.

We want the Richard The First to be your home away from home, Team Richard First look forward to welcoming you very soon.

Nostalgic British Food

Our kitchen team is fully dedicated to using the absolute best of British produce within the pubs menus. With the pub stretching back to the early 20th century we want to remember the good old, British classics. We have designed a menu that reflects the nostalgic British dishes that make you smile and think of home and family.

Parties & Events

The Conservatory and beer garden are the ideal spaces to host many an event. From work leaving ‘do’s, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, meetings and wakes. Explore our events pack for more information.

The food was excellent, our group of French photographer friends remarked on it! Se we were a group of 26. Our waitress was very attentive making sure we all had what we wanted. It was lovely to be seated in the dining area and be in no rush so that we could sit and chat over our meal all evening. As it was our last evening together, after a 3 day visit it was a perfect spot. So thanks Sam, Bradley and Kritzstina for your cheerful service Thank you again Reka for putting together a menu for us which catered for everyone and including drinks and coffee was great value. I shall certainly recommend the Richard ! to other people.

Dog Friendly

Cosy, homely and spacious pub with good sized bar and restaurant area. As a lifelong resident of Greenwich, this is a particular recommendation of mine!

Great place for beers and food. Generally book a table here to watch six nations every year. Always feel welcome and I keep going back.
